Rat Rehoming Information

We're currently running a waiting list for our rats, but please be aware that our current waiting time is between 3 to 6 months. This is longer if you are looking for a specific variety. Occasionally we are asked for a trio with each rat being a different variety, while this is absolutely possible, these sorts of requests will incur a longer waiting time compared to someone who doesn't have a variety preference.

We are happy to help with husbandry recommendations, given you have taken the time to read this page and the website in general.
You should also know of a vet that will treat rats in case of an emergency. Rats are treated as exotics and ideally should be seen by a specialist.

To be considered as a home for our kits, you MUST:

  • Be over 18 years old. If you're applying for someone under 18 then you must be prepared to be the sole carer of the rats if the situation calls for it.

  • Already have an appropriate cage/set up. Our friend at Silver's Rattery wrote a great guide to cages which can be found here.

  • Know of and, preferably, be registered with a vet that will treat rats.

  • Fill out our online application, which can be found below.

Antique Gold Finger Pointing
General Terms
  • We expect you to be courteous enough to notify us as soon as possible if you no longer need to be placed on our waiting list.
Failure to correspond will result in being blacklisted from future litters.

  • No rat will leave the rattery before the age of 6 weeks old.

  • All rats must be rehomed in same-sex pairs or larger groups.
We strongly advise a trio so that in the event of death or ill health, the remaining rats are not left alone.
We do not sell single rats under any circumstances.

Baby Rats
  • All rats rehomed from Tea Time Rattery are done so as PETS ONLY. They will be placed under a no-breeding contract as standard.
We are happy to work with other breeders and encourage new breeders to get into the hobby. We just ask that you're honest with your intentions. Failure to do so will result in blacklisting and other breeders being notified of your actions.

  • All adopters must be 18 years old or older, or have a parent or guardian apply on their behalf. In the later case, the guardian or parent must be the one to accept full responsibility for the rats where the person they're purchased for cannot/will not look after them properly.

Pricing & Payment Policies
  • £30 is our usual price for our rats, this is PER RAT, not PER GROUP. This can deviate depending on the circumstance so it is best to ask.

  • We require a 50% deposit on each group of rats upon reservation, this is non-refundable.

  • In the case of courier, all fees are non-refundable and your rats MUST be paid for in full before they leave our rattery.
We will not provide a carrier, you must sort this with the courier you choose to use.
Couriers are a third party and we are not responsible for them and their fees.
Collection Policies
  • PLEASE BRING A SUITABLE CARRIER WITH YOU.
Please don't bring a cardboard box, a cat or dog cage with extremely wide bar spacing, or anything else that isn't designed for rats/small rodents.
Acceptable carriers are those made of hard plastic with no large holes (more than 1.5cm in diameter) such as the Ferplast Aladino which is available at Pets at Home or Amazon, or the large Rosewood Pod which is available online at VioVet.

  • Once the rats are ready to collect, you will have 7 days to collect them. If you have paid in full, they can be held here for up to 14 days. If you need rats to be held longer than this, we will recommend waiting for a later litter.

  • After the 7 days have passed with no correspondence, the adoption will be cancelled, the rats will return up for rehoming, and you will forfeit your deposit.
This also applies to the full purchase price and 14 day rule, failure to correspond with us will result in forfeit of the entire amount paid.

  • In cases of emergencies (we understand life happens) that may effect pick up, we will make a case by case exception.

  • In non-emergency cases where you aren't able to stick to your agreed pick up date and time, you MUST inform us at least 24 hours before, otherwise we may not be able to reschedule your pick up and you will lose your chosen rats and any amount paid.

All we truly ask is that you keep in contact. As a big family and a busy life, we understand that not every day is plain sailing. We can, of course, make exceptions when it comes to cancellations.

Our policies are strict simply due to past experiences and are in no way meant to come off as aggressive.. People can just be a big let down sometimes and it's neither fair to the rats nor to us as often we need to plan in advance to accommodate adopters due to childcare restrictions.
This is generally why we arrange our collection dates on certain days and not before or after certain times.

PLEASE BE AWARE

We do not allow people into our house and generally not in to the rat room.
This is for privacy and personal reasons as well as to limit contamination and stress to our rats.
WE DO NOT ALLOW DOGS ON TO OUR PROPERTY. This includes them being in your car. This is at the request of everyone situated on our property. We cannot make exceptions to this rule.
